Head Coach Ben's Tips & Tricks: The Complete Player
5 easy ways to remember how to be the complete player – just remember your 5 fingers!
5 easy ways to remember how to be the complete player – just remember your 5 fingers!
- Thumbs Up.
You have to get it in, to get a win. - Direction (your pointingfinger).
Direct the ball to the open court or your opponent’s weaker side. - Depth (the longestfinger).
Hit the ball deep in your opponent’s half of the court to limit their ability to attack. This results in an easier ball back to you. Hitting a drop shot can catch your opponent off guard or bring a weak net player uncomfortably forward. - Spin (think of spinning/twirling a wedding ring/band).
Hitting a combination of flat, topspin and slice shots can disrupt an opponent’s rhythm. The various spins bounce off the court surface in different ways and they change the feel of impact (and thus control) off your opponent’s racquet strings. - Pinky Power.
Over-powering an opponent feels great but it’s very tough to do on a consistent basis. Your margin for error is reduced and hitting with more power often provides an easier shot for your opponent because they can use the pace from your ball.
